Was catching up on the news .. been a bit out of touch with the world recently. Came across the Hajj related deaths where stampeding muslims caused the death of their fellow muslims during the Hajj. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/1204816.stm)
It's sad how people become stupid when they are put into groups .. the bigger the number the higher the chance for them to all become stupid and easy to panic. I see this phenomenon everywhere, in Hindu temples (yes, my mom drags me there evern now and then) where there are around 50 - 80 people crowding around you'll be able to experience everything from the dreaded 'Mantis Elbow Strike Of Death' , 'No Shadow Back Push', "Shaolin Bull Rush' and my all time favourite 'Lead Foot Of Chaos'. For some weird reason the perpertraitor of these killer kung fu moves are not the unshaven rugged looking guys, instead you have haggard looking 'aunties' in their sarees and bedecked in their finest jewellry trying to shove the spleen out of you or at least to rupture a kidney or two. I always wondered if the amount of jewellery is directly connected to their ability to 'kung fu' the poor unsuspecting guy in front of them (namely me). Maybe everytime they end up killing someone by using their moves they are allowed to put a new piece on, perhaps that is what motivates them.
Let's hope this kind of incidents doesn't happen anymore .. It's quite sad to die. Even sadder when you're crushed to death. What makes it worse is that there is no reason to stampede and kill people .... all they required was A LITTLE PATIENCE ... sigh.
Remember the sign boards that read " Speed Kills" , I don't think they are accurate. It should be changed to 'Impatience Kills'.
Special Message To The Legions Of People Who Go Around Trampling ME In Temples
If any of you saree wrapped jewellery bedecked 'aunties' are reading this ... lay off the damn kung fu moves damn it ! I am quite sure god wouldn't want you to trample me in order for you to reach the priest. I'm too evil to die that easily, I am sure he/she/they have much worse things planned. Besides, you don't really want blood on your saree right ? So lay off the pushings and shoving. OK ? Good .. good . Now go and do the gene pool a favour, go and jump off the closest cliff you can find.
