| Radioactive isotopes |
I had to work with radioactive probes today in the lab. Pretty scary business ... especially when the Geiger counter starts showing readings off the scale when it is pointed at you T_T scary...
Feeling pretty down now .. probably some sort of psychological fear of radioactives ....
Did you know that radioactive Phosphate isotopes are a beautiful pink ? Looks very nice actually ... until you realize that they can suck the life out of you and leave you a husk .. impotent and suffering. Hmmm... reminds me of girls ...

Just finished reading Terry Pratchett's "Reaper Man". It's a bit old actually but it was really funny .. even for a Discworld book. Highly recommended for those who want to read something satirical but intelligent :) (Bored Of The Rings , this is not) The story is about DEATH taking a break and weird things start happening ..
.. for starters DEATH starts working on a farm and learns about .. life .

| Reply for advent rising and cosplay |
Seeing warlock already put out some nice picture on cosplay. I intent to put some also which i consider it good one. This is from a online game A3 and this not really a cosplay but rather a promosion pic.:)

After warlock mention the review on the Advent rising I decidec to visit them myself. After reading the review I decided I will not simply trust any review anymore. They simply "searching bones inside an egg". The small mistake in the game they take it very big and the good part of the game they never mention or just simply ignore it. So the advise will be, play the game, then u will know. |

| Advent Rising |
Advent Rising is a 3rd person perspective game. I played it and I finished it in 2 days straight. No mean feat for someone as lazy as me. I really really love the game. It was simple and fun and the music .. man the music is superb. The only other game that I can think of that can compare with it is the game Homeworld. Full blown orchestra playing as you pummel the living daylights out of evil alien creatures bent on destroying humans. The story is pretty cool but I am not going to spoil the plot. It's by Orson Scott Card (yup , the author of the Ender series). It has one of the coolest sci-fi story/atmosphere in a game (and that has been a long time coming).
At the very end of the game .... with the finishing cutscene .. came the 3 words that I absolutely dread in games ... TO BE CONTINUED ...
Nooooo .. I shouted .. I need to know what happened. Damn cliffhanger endings. I don't take cliffhangers well , it's the main reason why I don't watch drama series (or the reason why I have to watch like 3-6 episodes of the TV series 24 in a go).
Went online .. searched for the reviews of the game , trying to find out when the next one is scheduled to be realeased ..
The damn reviews all said the game was crap .. and the producers should jump into a well and die .. and stuff like that ... sigh .... what happened to the game that I sooo enjoyed ? I wonder how much of the reviews are slanted and biased .... They were complaining about the art (it seems his leg to body ratio was wrong .. what ever happened to 'artistic expression' ? ) and the fact that the game can get very easy (beats fighting the same boss for 2 days in a row) and yadda yadda... sheezh
So to make a long story short ... it seems that due to lukewarm response , the other game which continues Advent Rising, which was to be part of a trilogy will never be made T_T
It's sad , the world has lost a good tale and this is also a stunning blow to those who miss the classic sci-fi feel in games . Take my word for it , it can be fun if you give it a try ...

| Cosplay |
Cosplay is a very popular thing in Japan. Cosplay , formed from the words Costume and Play is about people dressing us as characters from manga, video games and popular (Japanese) cultural icons. It quite cool actually, the dress up as characters such as Doraemon, Ultraman and such and then they pose for photos.
I wish I could go visit Japan some day just to experience being a part of a cosplay convention. ( Of course there will be numerous girls all dolled up and dressed like video game girls .. read: skimpy outfits ~_~ ).
Part of the fun in cosplaying is of course designing a costume. If i were to send Siriuz off to cosplay I just have to paint him blue and white and then claim that he is Doraemon.

Well it's finally over ... Singles Appreciation Day a.k.a SAD. If you are wondering what it is , SAD is an alternative celebration for Valentines day, it's meant to be a type of self-depreciating humour but grew bigger as more and more people celebrate it. Thus single people gather around in public places , throwing rotten eggs at couples ... :p .. nah , just kidding. They get around and celebrate the fact that they are still free from the bondage of relationship (or relationships for you Casanovas). Well, better to celebrate SAD than to sit around moping that you don't have the someone special to spend valentines day with.
Remember judge yourself by what you are and not by who you are with :)

| My Observations |
From my long observances in my uni , I have noted and learnt a lot of things. Now I intend to share these gems of observation and cool deductive reasoning. My first installment deals with :
Things You Can Do To Make You Seem Smarter Than You Really Are
1) Carry large books around .. preferrably books with titles like "Advanced Astro-physics" .. Harry Potter and the Order Of The Pheonix doesn't quite cut it though.
2) Pretend to play blindfold chess (without a board) with your friend .... try to make it logical of course sending your Queen to square Z 17 just gives it away
3) When giving opinions start with , " In my humble opinion ... " .. I noticed that of all the people that I know who use that line , not a single one of them are humble. It makes you sound like a weiner but played properly can make you seem smarter.
4)Use lots of long winded explanations and substitute simple words for complex ones. Memorizing a thesaurus is a must. So :
" I am going to the nearest clinic "
becomes
"I am travelling towards the most proximately located medical establishment"
5) Pretend to be me :) |

Helped my lecturer to design a poster ... It was about a genetically modified tomato which we called 'super tomato' :P ... spent an hour drawing a logo for it :P .. we decided that it was too corny so I finally shelved it .. but if you are curious here it is :

This tomato line has been genetically modified to carry an antifungal gene called defensin (previously known as gamma-thionin) , pretty cool to see the control plants dying left and right after being treated with fungus while this bugger just thrives.
If you are curious, the defensin gene was isolated from chilli (Capsicuum annum) using differential screening of cDNA libraries and then the gene was inserted into a vector together with a viral promoter sequence to drive the expression of the gene. Then it was inserted a well known plant bacteria (Agrobacterium tumefaciens) which is known for it's ability to insert genes into plants. The tomato was then infected with the bacteria and then using tissue culture methods, were later on regenerated as multiple clones. These clones were tested and the positive ones were grown in the field .. and voila ... fungal resistant trees.
It's only a matter of time until I can modify a plant to eat people .. then I'll give it to Siriuz as a present .. (insert evil laughter here)

I was walking around in UKM (National University of Malaysia - the University that I am studying in) when a poster caught my eye ... I read it and screamed .. DOTA ! In UKM !!! This was my chance to prove once and for all that I am the lord and master when it comes to DOTA !!! (Must remember to switch off Siriuz' posting previllages for a while .. wouldn't want to be contradicted in my own blog ... ) I looked at the time ( 10 am ) to make sure that nothing will bar my way to utter and total victory. My mindset was set to "Total - Annihalation of Enemies" .. my mouse clicking finger started twitching with anticipation ...
When I win (notice the WHEN not the IF :P ) I'll have the bragging rights of being THE BEST DOTEE (My friend Irene came up with this term ... I know it's weird) in the whole of UKM !! Ha ha .. then everyone will bow down to me and acknowledge me .. the evil aunties in the UKM offices (the ones that shunt you off from office to office just to finally ask you to come again next week cause the form that you wanted is all finished ) will wash my feet and dry it using their hair !!! (Sorry , been reading Wheel Of Time again)
Allready the sweet savour of victory was on my lips when my lecturer suddenly called me ...
