Second Coming |
Sometimes when I am playing DOTA and we are handed the ass-whupping of our lives I start typing crap on the chat function .. things like " the center cannot hold" and "the blood dimmed tide is loose" and such. I assumed that it was common knowledge that I am quoting William Butler Yeats' "The Second Coming" ... from chatting with some people I found out that it wasn't quite common knowledge. Allow me then, to enlighten you. Here is the poem :
The Second Coming
Turning and turning in the widening gyre, The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun, Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds. The darkness drops again; but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Some say that the poem refers to the second coming from the bible, in which a great battle will be fought and that ultimately good will prevail. If that is the case here, the authour raises doubt about who will win. Another theory is that the poem symbolically represents the awakening of paganism which then tries to take over Christianity. In that case"The sleeping monster" here refers to paganism and how it tries to become dominant again. Doesn't matter what it means, like most good poems, each phrase here has it's own meaning for different people and how it will be interpreted depends on who is reading it.
Still gives me the chills to read this .. especially with the prophetic air that it has. |

Guy Fawkes |
After watching 'V for Vendetta' I was naturally curious about Guy Fawkes. All I used to know about him was that he was someone who got caught trying to blow up parliment. The 'why' of it never crossed my mind. Fortunately for me, there is an article in Wikipedia : (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_fawkes)
It was pretty amazing that his act of 'treason', trying to blow up parliment, was considered by some people to be a good thing. Guy Fawkes is sometimes referred to as " the only man to ever enter parliment with good intentions' :p .. goes to say something about politicians huh. It just comes to show that one man's terrorist is another's hero.
Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators planned to blow up parliment and with it King James I and most of the Protestant aristocracy. It had to be remembered that at that time, people were outlawed from practicing their faith (Catholics) and their priests were executed and the faitful prosecuted. People were also forced to take part in the rituals of the Anglican Church. These facts were used as argument that the conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot were justified to go to war with the government.
Unfortunately for Guy, and fortunately for the king. Guy was caught before he could set the gunpowder stacked underneath the parliment. He was then tortured, made to confess and finally executed and quartered.
Until today, some places still celebrate Guy Fawkes day on the 5th of November. The celebration is also known as Bonfire Night or Firework Night. Kids make 'guys' which are effigies meant to represent Guy and then set it on fire. These effigies are usually made from old papers stuffed into old clothes and an ugly mask is put on it. Because of the practice of putting grotesque masks on these 'guys' the term 'guy' itself came to carry the connotation of someone ugly, unpresentable or weirdly dressed. Later on the connotation of the word changed to become something more common. So whenever you use the the term guy as in " that guy " ... remember where it came from and what it originally means :P ..
Here is a popular verse sung to remember the Gunpowder Plot : (taken from Wikipedia)
Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot, I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot. Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent to blow up the King and the Parliament. Three score barrels of powder below, Poor old England to overthrow: By God's providence he was catch'd With a dark lantern and burning match. Holloa boys, holloa boys, make the bells ring. Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King! Hip hip hoorah!
(traditionally the following verses were also sung, but they have fallen out of favour because of their content)
A penny loaf to feed the Pope. A farthing o' cheese to choke him. A pint of beer to rinse it down. A faggot of sticks to burn him. Burn him in a tub of tar. Burn him like a blazing star. Burn his body from his head. Then we'll say ol' Pope is dead. Hip hip hoorah! Hip hip hoorah!

V for VERV GOOD |
"This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is it vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished, as the once vital voice of the verisimilitude now venerates what they once vilified. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose vis-à-vis an introduction, and so it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."
And that is how one of the best movies I have seen this year starts off. V for Vendetta ... a movie adaptation of Alan Moore's (League Of Extraordinary Gentleman, Swamp Things ) comic book/graphic novel. I haven't read the comic book so I can't and won't comment on the quality of the movie as compared to the comic. What I can tell you is that it was a GREAT movie. Really gets you thinking ....
The acting is good . Really good . Hugo Weaving does a very good job conveying his character even through he is fully masked throughout the movie. What most actors can't manage in a whole movie (think Annakin Skywalker/Hayden Christensen in Star Wars II and III) what this guy manages to do everytime his character is on screen .. every tiny nuances, move of the head, the way the shoulders droops goes to show you the emotions of the character.
The movie also has a lot of style ...
Evey: Who are you? V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of "what", and what I am is a man in a mask. Evey: Well I can see that. V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation, I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is. Evey: Oh... right.
The character is really really cool ! When the character is surrounded alone with a bunch of badguys all aiming their guns at him he goes ...
Bad Guy: All you have is your knives and your fancy karate gimmicks. We have guns. V: No, what you have is bullets and the hope that when your gun runs out of them I won't be standing, because if I am, you'll all be dead before you have a chance to reload.
Now that is what I call attitude, I am sick of the usual Hollywood big-trash-talk hero. Move out Sarge from Doom , run along Rambo, shoo away The Rock ...
..... cause V is here .
Go watch it ...

Neck Hurts ... |
Great , all it takes to ruin your day is a badly fluffed pillow ... damn my neck hurts. Well on the plus point since I was on the bed the whole day I got to catch up on some reading ... went through Siruz'es copy of Newsweek. It's scary how a terrorist group is now running the government (Hamas in Palestine) .. man I wonder what this will bode for the future. Maybe we shall start seeing tax deductions for suicide bombers now .. sheezh. A bunch of terrorists running a government...
Wonder how many people are going to die in the name of religion this time ? |

NOTD : Aftermath 1.2 |
Been playing Night Of The Dead 2 : Aftermath. It's a Warcraft III mod with a twist. Instead of your usual fantasy-Aragorn like warrior hacking people you are a US Marine. You get to choose from different classes like the medic, the Firebat, a sniper, Delta Force and Ghost Recon. Really sweet game ...
Instead of the usual PvP (player vs player) this is a survival map , where the objective is just to survive the wave after wave of Unknown Entities which threatens to engulf you and your teammates in a river of blood.
Teamwork is an absolute must .. cause you don't want to place tactical mines to cover your retreat and end up toasting your friends instead. (Generally what happens to Siriuz)
There are some pretty scary moments when you are surrounded by hostiles (Zulu's in military jargon) and it's a fight just to survive and run away. Add to the suspense limited ammo so you have to scrounge for supplies and you have a map worth spending hours over.

Brit Pop |
Since Warlock went gaga all over this blog about James Blunt, I might as well get another brit star to gush about.
So, of course, I got me a chick to drool over. And its... Natasha Bedingfield! Sister to Daniel Bedingfield. Is she a babe? You be the judge.
When I first heard her name, I was like, bah, just another sibling hanging on the coat tails of a famous kin. Then I really listened to the lyrics of "these words" and I went like - cool song...
Not exactly Sheryl Crow, I know, but her songs tend to have a simple charm about them. My favourite is Unwritten, a song based on a poem she wrote for her brother's birthday.
Heres a sample of the lyrics: I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it
Release your INHIBITIONS Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins The rest is still unwritten

Donated blood today, if you haven't u should try it . It's virtually painless and costs you nothing. Read some statistics about the previous blood donation drive in UKM .. it seems there were only 18 Indian donating blood .. The whole of UKM and only 18 person bothered to do something to help others .. pretty sad.
GO DONATE BLOOD. You might end up saving someone ...
_____________________________________________________________ Was trying to figure out the guitar tab for the song Moon Over Water in BECK (by Beat Crusaders) , I think it should go something like this :
E-------------------------------------------------------------------------- B-------9---------------10-------------------------4(h)5------5(h)4------ G-------9------------9-----9-8----------------6-------------4------------ D-----9---9-8-----7------------------------6----------------4------------ A--7----------------------------------4-------------------2--------------- E--------------------------------------------------------------------------
then strum
A9 to finish the intro.
The song chords are as follows :
E A9 Full moon sways ...
C#m B A9 gentle in the ...
A9 (fill)
Chorus :
C#m Em F#m F#m A9 What a fool ...
and then play it over and over again until the song ends :p

BECK : Mongolian Chop Squad |
I'm back from my temporary absence. Magnus was being humble (oxymoron , i know) with his claims of losing to us the Lunatics .. (I feel that someday I am going to regret using that term to refer to myself .. especially when I am fitted into a straightjacket)
The big thing for me for these few days (besides DOTA, DOTA and DOTA) is BECK : Mongolian Chop Squad. It's a Japanese anime. You know how there are japanese anime themes for everything under the sky such as sports, love, gay-love, weird fetishes and such. BECK is an anime about .. music. (Not much "IIeee.." & " Ecchi" being proclaimed by girls unfortunately) The story is about a teenage boy who discovers rock music and wants to play on stage. This sudden intrest slowly turns into an obsession and he starts to fight the odds to become a part of a band. It's pretty cool actually, the anime has quite a lot of really good songs (mostly by the Beat Crusaders).
If you never actually liked rock music and wondered what the heck is so great about it, then you should watch this. If you do listen to rock , well then you should watch this also. Oh yeah, if you do watch it be prepared to be addicted to it and go an a really cool musical journey. Time for me to plug in my guitar into the amp and try to get the same sound as BECK ...

My first post |
I'm finally here!!!!!!!!! I must say that it wasn't like I thought it would be. It looked like so much fun in the movies when the actors and actresses did it. It hurts and feels a big sore, but I'm starting to enjoy it now. To all you blog posters out there, my only advice is use protection.
Just got my arse handed to me in DotA today. Getting creamed by the raving lunatics just made a a bad weekend even worse. It still beats being demolished by the pro players at the cybercafe, at least I know where Siriuz, Warlock and Sai live. My pyromania has been acting up lately.........
What else, what else.............. hmmmmmm......well I saw a mad dude playing with his wanker on the way to dinner. Why do mad people always seem to wear the exact same outfits, its like they're unionised or something. The only original mad person I've ever seen is this dude around my old collect who wore nothing but plastic bags and spent his days finding out how high up his nose he could stuff twigs. I know sweet innit.
I so wanna know where I can get the Sephiroth outfit, sweet man. Only problem is that its just not right to give someone like me a sword, I'd want to test it out. If anyone is interested in Mortal Kombat, the original violent video game franchise and every caucasian parent's nightmare, the latest installment is coming out "Mortal Kombat Armageddon" featuring every character from every mortal kombat game. I don't see Motaro in the picture though. Gotta have the centaur man, they're hung like horses.
Well that's all I've got for today, need to 'entertain' myself now. Stupid licenced videos..... |
