My brief trip to outer space has sadly revealed that no remnants of my homeworld Krypton exist, and so I have returned to my adoptive world to discover two recent developments.
Military Coup in Thailand
Now who didn't see this one coming? At least its happened without a hail of bullets, shock and awe or virgin deprived exploding soldiers. If it does degenerate into that you can bet thousands of refugees will flow through the porous Malaysian-Thai border, and we will have trouble on our hands.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about this yet. I know I don't care if thousands of Thais kill or get killed, but I worry that this will dampen investments in the region. Mind you Malaysia doesn't get much in the way of foreign investment these days so it might actually be a good thing i.e. money gets diverted to us now to make a few more metally handicapped people with political contacts rich. Although I'm willing to bet it would just be diverted to China instead.
Let's see how this unfolds.
Pope pisses off Muslims
Well I suppose we are overdue for another round of our middle east friends throwing tantrums. So the Pope quoted the words of some Bazantine emperor besmirching the Prophet blah blah blah.
Forget the apology, forget that he repeatedly stressed that the words weren't his own, forget that this was a speech primarily directed at the west on how religion and reason cannot be separated. (By the way, I do think that someone as intelligent as Pope Benedict, or as intelligent as claimed anyway, should have realised that this would offend muslims. I mean he knew what his speech would say in advance)
Forget all that other stuff and consider how stupid it is to expect the head of a religious order, that propagates that it is the one true religion, the one path to god and heaven. His very position in Catholicism dictates that he must be of the opinion that ALL OTHER RELIGIONS ARE WRONG!!! That's right!! Of course the Pope thinks Islam is rubbish, he should also think that other religions accept the one he practices are rubbish. Don't tell me the true practitioners of the religion of peace don't go around saying catholicism is rubbish and try to execute their own when they convert.
So naturally the protests start. At least it wasn't as bad as it was with those Danish cartoons. So here's my 2 cents:
- The Pope either intended to offend muslims, or he is stupid.
- Idiots that get all pussied up whenever someone offends their 'religious sensitivities' need to go get jobs or go kill themselves to be closer to their god.
- You can't appease people who are determined to be angry, you only delay the inevitable, so just tell them to go fuck themselves (note this applies to all aspects of life, really).
Aside from that, the world continues to remain the same, and I continue to remain irritated with it. |

Ya , didn't see the Thailand coup coming.
I think the Muslims overreact. I've heard many of them diss off other religions. As a matter of fact their religion automatically insult other religions and claim to be the only real one. Hindu gods are "demons" while Christians are being misled by the devil who made the false religion of Christianity to "sesatkan umat Adam" (drive astray the children of Adam) .. sigh.
