When magnus say he want to buy a graphic card and ask for opinion. It remind me how many graphic card I had. Although I cannot say I had change the most graphic card among all of us. But it certainly not on the low one. Well everyone who play pc game should know how important graphic card to gaming on pc. Unfornately I didn't know that when I bought my second pc. So I end up buying a computer with a not so good card which is Gforce 2 mx 100/200.
First sign of insufficient power of the card show when I play Silent Hill 2. When the heavy fog come out, the game lag like hell. Then the situation went downward as in a lot of games came out with higher requirement. So I think is time for me to buy a new graphic card. After go online and see. The one card that fit my budget will be Gforce 5600. Okay so I went and buy it. After using it for a few month then only found out that this card does not really put the use of direct X 9 to the full. So some of the game will still lack even I put to low setting. Sigh.... Nevertheless, I still can play warcraft 3 at full so I have no complain.
when I enter the third year in university, because my sister need a pc for work and entertainment of cource. So I bought a new pc which I research a lot.I put my effort so that it is not only powerful but also cheap. This is the pc I like a lot. When I buy this pc, I install MSI Geforce 5700U in it. The card is good. can play all the game at recommended setting and sometimes at full. Very happy but unfortunely the fan spoil after one year. I have to buy a new fan for it which cost me like RM180. the fan brand is coolmaster and the fan really look cool. It cover entire card with aloy and a big fan and also the conductor which will cool down the behind part of the card. Well the card don't last long after that, part of it because I didn't realize the fan is spoil in the beginning so guess the chip must be overheat or something like that.
So the card spoil, no choice, warlock is intend to buy a graphic card for his new pc as well, So I went online and find that one card will definitely fit our need. the almighty Geforce 6600GT. It was say that the performance of this card even beat the low end Geforce 6800. This is the card I like a lot. The brand I use is Winfast. I use this card more than a year and then an unfortunate event happen again. This time is not the card fault, is my fault. I didn't off my pc when I went back and there is a lighting strike at our house. my pc is at mess after I come back. After send to the shop. All the part of my pc like prosessor, ram and motherboard is spoil and the it is more than a year I bought the pc so the shop warranty is gone. What to do? haha! thats the good thing buying a good brand. My processor and motherboard is Intel which provide me 5 years warranty. Ram is cossair which provide lifetime warranty. So the shop will send the parts for warranty and I just have to paid RM30 for each of the part I send. After few weeks of waiting I get back a brand new processor, ram and motherboard. Still better than buy a new pc. So what about the parts of my pc. Well at first they doesn't seem to have anything wrong. But the harddisk, burner and of course the graphic card seems to broke down one by one. Burner of course had no choice but to buy a new one. Harddisk I bought is Seagate, good brand, give you 5 years warranty. ok send it for warranty and get back a new one. The same one go to my graphic card, 3 years warranty. I just got it back last week after 3 months of waiting because the shop I buy this graphic card is not the usual one I go. They have the lousy service on warranty. I shall not mention the shop name here. But if you ask me, I recommend not to buy anything from that shop.
But you know me, no way I can suvive without game for three month, and yes, I get a new graphic card again. This is the younger brother of my old card, Geforce 7600GT. This time I didn't go for a good brand cause I figure out I'm going to change the pc soon. So if this card can last one year is good enought for me. I was impress by the card performance actually. It can even run neverwinter nights 2 at high setting without lack. Before that it actally lack but that's because my pc background is running some process which take out like half my processor power.
Well Magnus, what can I tell you is that MSI is not really a good brand. The fan get spoil easyly. Mine one is gone and warlock one is MSI as well. After one year plus the fan torn off. Yes torn off, not spoil but the fan come out totaly and the card become useless. After I check online and know that MSI provide 2 years warranty. I ask warlock to try get the warranty. But the shop say the 2 years is count by manualfacture date, not the purchase date. I don't know about other brand but this one sound stupid to me. If I buy a new card but the card manualfacture one year ago. that mean I still got one year warranty but not two. Stupid leh. I can't borrow my card to warlock cause mine is using AGP but warlock pc is new so it is using pci express. So now warlock has no graphic card on his pc. Sigh..
Hope you get some idea from this and get a good graphic card. All I can say is for computer component it is important to look not only the performance but also the service and support. that is why AMD cannot beat Intel, ATI cannot beat Nvidia.
