If a tree falls in a forest and there is no one to hear it. Does it still make a sound ?
It would seem that the simple answer is Yes . The presence of an observer does not in itself change the nature of sound. Unfortunately , to put a bee in your bonnet it can be argued that for something to be called sound it has to be processed by the ears and transformed into the form of impulses and enter the area of the brain that 'imagines' and 'colours' the information which we percieve as sound. Without an observer the fall of a tree will produce vibration and oscillation , but is it really a sound ?
Now for the real question.
