I know that there are a lot of Chinese in this blog and I might be the only one that actually coming from Chinese school (As you notice my English is not that good). There are a lot of people say Mandarin is hard to learn and is “lame” when you talk in Mandarin like most of the Singaporean believe now. Despite all these, I still like Mandarin. This language is a beauty by itself. Not to mention because I know Mandarin, I got to read a whole lot more manga, play more games and watch a lot more anime.
Chinese font had been passing down for more than 5000 years. It does evolve by time. From the beginning it is very hard to read and write and until now it evolve into two forms, simplified and traditional. All the people who know how to write Chinese, no matter what dialect they use, they still use the same font, the Chinese font.
In Malaysia, I get learn a lot of language, I know Malay, which the national language in this Country. I can not say I master it but at least I know how to read, write and talk in Malay. This language allows you to communicate with most Malaysian. Next I know Mandarin and Cantonese. Unfortunately I can’t say I master this language as well. This language is too deep and I still at the surface and looking. I can listen and understand (mostly) Hokkien and Hakka as they are the dialect some of the Chinese use in Malaysia. I know English, and because of it, I get to know a lot of good friends who are now stay with me and play games with me. With English, I can communicate with a lot of people on the net. I can play a lot of English good games. In Malaysia, I get to learn and read both, Simplified and Traditional font which is hard if you born in China which is using simplified or Taiwan which is using Traditional.
When I playing World of Warcraft on the china server, people ask me where I come from. I say I am from Malaysia. I immediately gain respect from them. Why? Because I was typing in traditional Chinese and English while I reading Simplified text from them.
I am actually happy and proud to be born in Malaysia. I get to learn a lot of language and I get to know and adapt to different culture. Except China, Malaysia has the best Chinese Education in the world. Believe it or not, search the net, and you know that our Chinese education is famous in the world. This all thank to our ancestors who are fighting to death to protect the Chinese education. Malaysia father of Chinese Education, Mr. Lin Lian Yu even lost his nationality when fighting for the right of the Chinese Education in Malaysia. A lot of teacher, headmaster lost their job, get into jail because they want to preserve Chinese education in Malaysia. Mr. Qu Liu Zhang who serving as China Ambassador in Kuching for almost ten years and before that as the first secretary in China Embassy, during his retirement speech say that what give the deepest impression after serving almost 20 years in Malaysia is that how Chinese in Malaysia fighting for Chinese Education. He has never seen another country like Malaysia which Chinese is not the majority will sacrifice that much just to make sure they can enjoy Chinese Education.
Unfortunately Malaysia government never takes advantage of the Chinese education. Instead they just ignore the fact that Chinese population is growing. Can you imagine having 60 students in the class? Is it just language problem that government wants to ignore the Chinese schools? I don’t see there is a problem there. Even it is a Chinese school, we still teach Malay and English. The language shouldn't be a problem. So why? |

I read somewhere in another blog that this is just the government's (UMNO's) tactic to keep their own people in line:
They create an enemy for themselves to wave their Keris' at. In this case, the chinese are the huge threat to them now, its been made perfectly clear in many statements coming from government affiliated politicians lately.
I'll bet you a billion bucks that they probably think all chinese are rich and don't need the government to build schools for them anymore, they can just fund their own damn schools.
Sigh. All I know is English and horrible Malay, but I speak English well and its been a great help in surfing adult websites
